I am entirely baffled by pricing (esp. for custom video)

I hope someone from HeyGen sees this and responds.


I signed up for a creator account to create videos using my “digital twin” for Udemy courses that require at least 30 minutes of video content per course.


So I signed up for $29/mo to try it out, and the sign-up page says (amongst) other things for creator there is:

-“ Extended video generation w/Avatar iV”

I created a “digital twin” by submitting 2 minutes of me talking.


Then I started experimenting with “Video Agent” to understand its capabilities, since it seemed the easiest way to get started. The results were decent, so I iterated on just one video to get what I want. 


After a handful of iterations, I get a message saying “You’ve hit the monthly High Quality Videos limit with Video Agent” and offers to let me spend $11 per month to get “300 generative credits”, with 1 minute buying 20 credits.

These limits are not mentioned on the sign-up page.

Also, it does not say how the minutes are used. Is every generation charged, even when asking the agent to make minor changes? What if I then edit an agent-generated video in Studio? Is the post-edit generation charged? 


The alternative, I am advised, is to use a “public avatar” with only lip sync. So it seems I cannot use my digital twin at all without paying top fees for credits whose consumption is opaque.

But maybe, I reasoned, it’s just a temporary thing for the video agent, which, after all, is in beta.


So I hop over to the studio and choose my digital twin avatar, only to be told “this will go over Avatar IV time limit” and offers to switch to “Avatar” Unlimited” with Lipsync only (and it’s unclear whether that is with my custom avatar or only a public one). Or …surprise I can buy credits to “continue with Avatar 1V”


This isn't very clear because the documentation, such as it is, says that Avatar 1V is for photo-to-video, and the digital twin is not mentioned. I also saw a choice between “unlimited” and “digital twin-avatar IV” in a couple of places, which is a worry because I know avatar IV is tightly rationed, and if I cannot use my twin without it, it’s pointless.

I hope I am just a confused beginner (previously using Synthesia) and that I can happily churn out “unlimited” videos at 1080p using my “digital twin” (as advertised) but so far it looks as if my digital twin is redundant unless I buy credits whose consumption isn’t cleart, especially when one need to iterate a video to get whet one wants.


I’d be grateful if someone could clarify.

Can I use digital twin in a creator account without multiple top ups?
