I’d like to share a piece of focused feedback regarding video output that’s become a recurring challenge in our workflow.

In professional video production, it’s standard practice to capture a few seconds of “pad” before and after a subject begins speaking. This allows editors to cleanly fade in and out, apply transitions, cross dissolve, or integrate graphics and b-roll. It’s a foundational part of producing polished content.

Currently, when generating clips in HeyGen—whether from a still image or uploaded video—there’s no option to add even 1–2 seconds of hold on the first or last frame. This seemingly small limitation has a significant impact, as it restricts our ability to properly integrate the footage into a professional edit. Currently avatar start to speak the instant the clip begins - totally unacceptable and makes the clip all but useless.

I’ve spent considerable time working with support and exploring suggested workarounds (even outside your platform), but none provide a seamless or reliable solution. At this point, it appears the functionality simply isn’t available. The is a perfection profession. Adding the avatar image in a preceding scene with no script still results in a jump between that scene and the following. This is amateur at best. Other suggested options result in a waste of time and credits.

This is a very basic expectation in any video production environment, which is why I’ve raised it multiple times over the past year. Being directed to repeatedly submit the request through a separate feedback page—especially while under production deadlines—adds friction to an already time-consuming issue and further waste of time.

To be clear, this isn’t a complex creative request—it’s a fundamental editing need. Without it, otherwise strong renders fall short of the professional standard we’re required to deliver.

I’m sharing this in the spirit of helping improve an already impressive platform. Addressing something this core would make a meaningful difference for teams like ours working in real production environments. It also very possibly would bring in more customers showing them they get professional video production.

Anyone else experience frustration with this missing option?

Lack of pad before/after rendered clips - at the very least, as an option
