One person. Five verticals. One platform.

This entry documents what happens when you stop treating HeyGen as a tool and start treating it as infrastructure. I deployed HeyGen across five completely different real-world use cases — and the most unexpected one might change how people think about death.

 Multilingual cataract surgery prep videos for non-German-speaking patients at an ophthalmology clinic. A patient who doesn't speak German can now understand their procedure in their own language before they go under. 

End-of-Life Education & Legacy Preservation:

 This is where it gets personal. I'm working with a death doula who sees the same problem every day: people are terrified to talk about death. It's the most universal human experience, and it's the one we avoid the most. We're building an educational platform using HeyGen to change that — avatars that gently guide people through conversations about mortality, end-of-life planning, and the value of embracing death to live more freely.

And then we're taking it further. Legacy Conversations uses AI to preserve the stories, voices, and likenesses of family members who've passed — so future generations can still sit with their grandmother and hear her tell her story. The death doula educates you while you're alive. Legacy Conversations keeps you present after you're gone. Same platform. Same tools. Same mission: make death something we engage with, not something we run from.

This isn't theoretical. I've already brought my own father back. He passed away 32 years ago. Using AI, I built a knowledge base from everything I could gather — stories, details, the way he spoke, what he believed — and created a likeness my family could talk to. My son sat with his grandfather for the first time. I sat with my father again. The results are very promising — the accuracy of the responses, the emotional recognition, and the way it captured something real about who he was. It's early, but it's working. And if it works for my family, it can work for others.

There are plans to integrate both the death education and the legacy preservation into a single training and experience platform. The client sees enormous opportunity in using HeyGen's interactive and branching tools to meet people where they are emotionally, guiding them through the fear at their own pace rather than forcing a curriculum on them.

The process wasn't linear. It was orchestrated. I used Claude as the intelligence layer — strategy, prompt architecture, knowledge base design — and HeyGen as the delivery layer. Make.com handled workflow automation. Supabase stored the data. The human (me) provided context, judgment, and the thing AI can't generate: taste.

Each vertical required a different avatar personality, a different knowledge base, and a different emotional register. A patient needs calm authority. Someone facing their mortality needs warmth and permission to be afraid. A swimmer in cold water needs practical confidence. But the methodology was identical every time. That's the point.

First, AI “Silicon Brain” without the refinement of the “Carbon Brain” is average. The platform generates video. The human must guide the process. The gap between a demo and something that actually helps a patient, a grieving family, a teenager, or someone confronting their own death — that gap is filled by human context, not more prompts. 

Second, the hardest problems are emotional, not technical. Building a multilingual surgery video is a technical challenge. Building something that helps a person stop being afraid of death? That requires a completely different kind of design — one where the branching, the pacing, the avatar's tone of voice all serve a human being in a vulnerable moment. HeyGen's interactive tools make that possible. The human designing the experience makes it real.

Third, the methodology replicates. The death doula I'm working with is one of my students. She's already deploying the same approach I used — building her own vertical, her own avatar, her own knowledge base. The system teaches itself forward.

Fourth, the real product isn't the video. It's the process. Anyone can make a good AI video. The question is: can you deploy it across multiple client domains — eye surgery, death education, legacy preservation, and ocean science — that have nothing in common except the human need to understand something better? That's what HeyGen makes possible when you treat it as a platform rather than a video avatar app.
