I spend a lot of time making sure that the voice sounds as natural as possible.  I focus on this more than the visual because I've learned that the emotion carried in a voice is the key in retention.  If you can get the video watcher to engage emotionally, you've got a better chance at them actually learning.  It's all about the prosody.

Here is my workflow - I'd like to know yours:

My scripts are generated in ChatGPT, Grok or Claude.  I tell the AI to sound conversational like a real human - not scripted.  AI breaks my script into scenes. I do not ask them to add disfluencies.  

I've got my favorite AI voice and I've tested most of the voice engines.  I prefer ElevenLabs (not V3).  It will add some disfluencies.  

90% speed works best for me. at 100%, the disfluencies are too pronounced.

If there are phrases that are too fast, too slow, not emphasized correctly, i rework them gently.  So “In this video you're going to learn X, Y, Z” becomes “What we're going to teach you in this video is X, Y and Z”.  

To emphasize phrases, I will proceed them with something like this “Now, this is important:” or “A key takeaway is:”  

For timing, I shy away from adding pauses and instead rely on carriage returns, colons, periods and dashes. 

I listen over and over until it sounds close enough to perfect.  When I've got it, I move to the next scene.

In the 5 months I've been using HeyGen, I've seen great improvements.  Now my earliest videos seem clunky in comparison.  My technique and this tool have improved.
