The challenge: Scaling educational content for a fast-changing product
Miro’s education team produces how-to videos, onboarding content, and thought leadership to help users get the most out of the product. But with weekly shoots, in-house actors, and the unpredictable nature of software updates, the traditional studio workflow quickly hit its limits.
"You could be in the middle of production and our product team will change a button… Now your video is outdated. You can be delayed for sometimes weeks." said Steve.
They needed a way to move faster, update content more efficiently, and meet the growing demand for multilingual learning assets.
The solution: HeyGen as the AI video tool for learning professionals
After testing over ten AI video platforms, Miro selected HeyGen for its speed, ease of use, and localization power. It wasn’t just about making videos faster—it was about rethinking what video production could be.
HeyGen allowed Steve's team to:
Instantly update videos when product changes happen
Translate videos into 7+ languages with natural tone and lip-sync
Scan internal team member actors as avatars and reuse them across scripts
Scale production from just 3 videos in 3 weeks to over 50 videos per quarter
A real example: Fixing a one-word software change
One of Steve’s favorite demos showed how Miro used HeyGen to change the phrase "start view" to "default view" after a UI update.
Instead of rescheduling the actor, rebooking the studio, and re-recording the entire video—all for one single word, the team simply edited the script, generated a new clip using the actor’s avatar, and dropped it into the existing video.
Localization that resonates
Using HeyGen, Miro was able to translate onboarding content into multiple languages like Dutch, French, and German—not with flat subtitles, but with realistic, emotionally matched voiceovers and synced avatars.
"We sent one to our team in the Netherlands, and they thought our actor had actually learned Dutch," Steve explained. "That’s how seamless the voice and lip-sync were."
This clip shows a split screen of their real actor Matt, next to translated Matt, and AI Avatar Matt.
The future of video production
Steve predicts that traditional studio shoots will soon be optional. Writers will be able to draft, generate, and deliver complete videos using AI avatars without ever touching a camera.
"It’s a little scary for someone who's spent 30 years in video production, but it's also the most exciting shift I've ever seen."
Q&A highlights from the webinar
How often is Steve reassessing AI tools? Frequent hands-on use reveals improvements weekly, so the assessment of tools and their evolution is ongoing and built into his workflow.
How does Steve accomplish precise voice editing? Using the HeyGen AI Studio style sliders, punctuation tricks, and engines like ElevenLabs helps adjust tone, pace, and clarity line-by-line, or even word-by-word.
Why not just use avatars from the start of production? That’s the direction Steve believes video production is heading. Writers can now generate footage directly and studio days are becoming optional.
Final takeaways
Speed wins: what used to take weeks now takes days or hours
Avatars scale storytelling: with team members avatars created in HeyGen, your script becomes your production
Make videos future-proof with "band-aid cuts": record once, reuse forever.
Localize with impact: emotionally accurate multilingual delivery is now possible at scale.
