How I Create Realistic UGC Video Ads with AI Avatars
If you’d told me last year I wouldn’t be filming UGC content myself anymore, I’d have laughed. But now, I’m producing 100+ UGC-style video ads a week without ever picking up a camera. And it’s all thanks to AI.
At Favoured, we work with DTC brands to create high-performing UGC content that feels authentic. Since we adopted HeyGen, our whole process has changed. In this post, I’ll walk you through how I create scalable, believable UGC videos using AI avatars, voice tools, and creative editing.

My Workflow from Idea to AI-Powered Ad

Every video starts with a script. Our media buyers tell me what’s working, and I use Groq (or ChatGPT) to brainstorm ideas. But AI can still sound a bit “cringe” out of the box, so I always humanize it in Google Docs before production.
I break down my script into five core parts:
  1. Hook – Something visually weird or unexpected. (Yes, I’ve pulled a CV out of a toilet before.)
  1. Problem – What’s annoying your viewer?
  1. Solution – Here’s where the product or service comes in.
  1. USPs – Your “unique selling point” showing the features that stand out.
  1. CTA – Always give viewers something to do next.

Picking the Right Avatar (It’s Like Casting)

Once the script is tight, I jump into HeyGen. Their catalog of AI-generated UGC avatars is wild. Hundreds of ultra-realistic characters, shot in everyday scenarios like cars, cafes, or out on a hike. I can “cast” creators that fit the tone and audience of the ad, without contracts or delays.
I also use HeyGen’s voice options or sync in ElevenLabs voices for added realism. My tip: don’t always go for the polished studio-sounding voices. The best UGC often sounds like it was recorded on an iPhone: raw, personal, real.
If you want the most human tone possible, use HeyGen’s voice mirroring. Instead of just typing a script, I record my voice saying it exactly how I want then map it onto the avatar’s voice. That emotional nuance is hard to fake with just text.
You can even upload real voiceovers from team members or clients. It makes AI content feel genuinely bespoke.

Making the Edit Pop with B-Roll and AI Motion

A 30-second monologue from an avatar? That’s a scroll-past. So I cut frequently and overlay with B-roll. I create AI-generated B-roll using tools like Kling or Runway, or real footage we shoot in-house.
For example, I’ll prompt Kling with “woman opens laptop, types, smiles” to simulate actions my avatar can’t do on their own. I even generate multiple takes so I can test what performs best.
I aim for a 90/10 split: 90% B-roll, 10% talking head. Then I add AI-generated captions in CapCut, fast transitions, and sometimes a green screen effect for added movement.

Batch Testing Hooks with HeyAds

We test 20–50 hooks per product. That’s where HeyAds comes in, HeyGen’s beta product specifically for UGC ads. It lets me upload one script, pair it with five avatars, and auto-generate 25 video variants in a few clicks. I’ll tweak voices, styles, and tones then export everything for editing.
I can go from zero to a full content batch in a morning. That used to take weeks.
