What is Nano Banana?

Nano Banana is a precise look editor built for controlled edits and product placement.
Unlike traditional generation models that re-create your look from scratch, Nano Banana uses your existing avatar photo as a base and applies changes via inpainting.
That means your face, style, identity, and pose remain intact, while only the areas you prompt to change are updated.
Think of it as digital Photoshop + HeyGen AI, except way faster.

Nano Banana works best for:
  • Outfit swaps
  • Background changes
  • Product placement
  • Textual elements (e.g., logos, shirts, signs)
  • Iterative edits with control

How to use Nano Banana

Go to your avatar, select the look you want to change, from the Look Generation tab, switch the model to Nano Banana.
When selected, HeyGen will auto-select a base avatar look to apply your changes to. (This is the key difference from Flex, which creates a new look from all your photos.)
Type in exactly what you want to change. For example:
  • “Change hat color to red”
  • “Replace background with a busy city”
  • “Holding a globe in right hand”
  • “Sitting in a library, reading a book by candlelight”
  • “Remove gold chain”
The more specific your prompt, the better the output.
Click Generate. NanoBanana will process the request in ~15–20 seconds.
You’ll see the new look with only your requested changes applied. Identity, facial expression, and styling will remain consistent.

Iterative edits & product placement

One of NanoBanana’s most powerful features is the ability to make iterative edits.
After your first generation, click 'Edit Look' again using your newly created image as the new base.
Add a new prompt (e.g., 'Remove gold chain', 'Add company logo to t-shirt'). Repeat as needed, each version builds on the last.
This enables multi-step customization, like:
Change background → Add product → Add logo → Remove accessory

Add Image References

Want to add a specific branded object or product?
Upload an image reference and include it in your prompt:
‘Holding the object in this image in left hand’
Nano Banana will incorporate it directly into the scene, perfect for marketing, merch placement, and sponsored content.
Nano Banana handles text and logos more accurately than Flex, which may scramble fine details.

Example prompts & results

Prompt
What Happens
“Change background to a library”
Only the background updates, preserving face/clothes
“Add sunglasses to face”
Adds glasses, face stays intact
“Add this object (image reference) to left hand”
Avatar holds branded item
“Remove gold chain”
Chain is erased, identity preserved
“Change to seated pose, reading a book”
May push limits—try Flex for full pose changes
