What is the Product Placement feature?

Product Placement is designed to help creators, agencies, and entrepreneurs generate realistic avatar videosthat include products.
It’s perfect for pre-selling items that don’t yet exist or creating marketing materials without physical access to products. Product Placement is easy to use, only takes 2-3 minutes, and is compatible with any Custom Avatar.

Best practices for uploading product images

For the best results, upload product images as follows:
  • Include at least one photo of the product only (no people or other objects)
  • Include one in-context shot (e.g., the product in use)
  • Provide multiple angles for better accuracy
  • For products with text or labels, ensure the label isn't covered by fingers or shadows. Avoid products with lots of fine print or text.

Using Product Placement with existing Custom Avatars

Open your HeyGen account, navigate to Avatars, and go to Photo Avatars.

When generating a Look, navigate to the 'Add a Product to Your Look' section. You can choose from previously uploaded products, public example products (e.g., a red sweater), or upload new products.

To upload new products, tap 'Upload', and once the window opens, you will have the option to either add images of the products or use a product listing URL (e.g., Shopify, Amazon, Etsy) to extract images automatically.
After choosing the images, choose the name of the product, and click on Upload.

The system trains a custom model for the product in a few minutes. Once completed, the product can be used across any avatar for look generation.

Generating Looks with your product

To generate looks with your product, start by selecting a product from your previously uploaded items or try one of the example products provided.

Next, craft a descriptive prompt that defines the desired Look and click Generate Looks to create images. Visit our Prompting best practices resource for more guidance.
Once the results are ready, review them to ensure the product is accurately represented..
If necessary, make adjustments to the prompt or refine your product images for improved results.
For more information on generating Looks, see this resource.

Creating new avatars (Avatar IV) with Product Placement

In addition to generating static looks, HeyGen also offers a next-level Product Placement experience powered by Avatar IV, our most powerful and lifelike custom avatar model that only needs one photo to get started!
From your HeyGen dashboard, select the Product Placement button, where you’ll be prompted to upload a product image and an avatar photo.

After clicking Combine Images, HeyGen generates four variations of your avatar holding, wearing, or interacting with the product. Choose your favorite image, then move on to scripting and animation.

From here, add your custom script, select a voice, and assign motion presets. The result is a highly realistic, fully lip-synced video ad that mimics a real creator delivering a pitch. This is an excellent way to create promotional content for social media, product launches, or paid ads—no cameras, studios, or spokespeople required.

And there you have it! With just a few simple steps, you can seamlessly integrate your products into professional videos, giving you endless opportunities to engage your audience and elevate your marketing efforts.
